World Scholar's Cup-from Shanghai all the way to Yale University
With over 20,000 participant each year internationally, I was ranked amongst the elite individuals who were invited to the Kuala Lumpur Global round and finally Yale Tournament of Champions, where only approximately 5% (1000) competitors were invited. In this international competition, I won the National Champion for individual debate and overall individual score.

The first ever time, I won the 1st place of China in the world scholar’s cup
I will represent China to participate in the Yale Tournament of Champion Round hosted in the fall competition season 2024-Thank you for all your patience to observe the glorious moment of everyone in China, and I will be describing the competition procedure & award summary using both Chinese (posted in Chinese social media) and English.
The World Scholars Cup is divided into three stages - Preliminary Round (domestic regional rounds with no entering requirement) Global Round (global repechage with a minimum advancement rate of 100/500 and an additional qualifying number of around 150) Yale Tournament of Champions (ToC) (the world's top scholars finals with a minimum advancement rate of 200/1600 and an additional qualifying number of around 250).
In the Scholars' Cup, we are required to present three team debates in English (the motion will only appear 15 mins before the actual debate), 120 multiple choice questions which is daunting as hell and hard as the rocks filled in your brain (with no modification of answers after selection), 2-3 hours of team multiple choice questions (yes you are right 3 damn hours), and about 2 hours of collaborative writing (this is comparatively more lenient though).
Most of the participants in the World Scholars Cup are fluent or first language speakers, which definitely put a lot of pressure on our team, but our team's logic, structure and ideas were clear as the sky. (by the way I was so happy that every ppl I’ve debated said my speech is better than 95% of the natives)
At the Global Round I sensed the harsh, competitive, and cruel environment immediately after the scholar’s challenge, which is a lot harder than the regional round (especially when I got a 2/495 0.4% at the regional rounds, but I ranked 18/800 2% at the Global Round at the debate), but the more intense atmosphere also added to the urge and the honor of winning. At the beginning of June, I was often on an 8am wake-up and 2pm bedtime routine for the World Scholars Cup, learning difficult facts and complex logic day after day, debating with myself in the mirror, sitting at my desk and practicing for hours on end... I lost my diet, often times only eating one meal per day. I lost my sleep. Often times struggling to get asleep (not only because of WSC but this is true). I would like to stop torturing myself and quit but I persevered.
HARD WORK ALWAYS PAYS OFF! Finally, after two months of advancing in the regional rounds, I got what I wanted and won THE FIRST PLACE OVERALL IN CHINA !!!!!National! Champion! The pain and exhaustion are not worth mentioning with this honor.
As a result, our team has advanced to the Yale ToC Round. We, the delegation of China, will reimagine the history! After the competition, I deeply interpreted and realized the Olympics spirit. Whether it's the future Olympics or teamwork, I'll be at my best to prepare, review, and reflect for the competition!
However, life is not only about competitions. I hope that what I win is not only gold medals and honors, but also the recognition of myself, the vision of the future, and the aspiration of myself. Because I didn't have a systematic review in the preliminary round, I only won 4 medals (1 gold and 3 silver); after exhausting myself into the midnights and mental breakdowns, I won 15 medals in the global round (6 gold and 9 silver)! (6 gold, 9 silver) I recognize the great honor of representing China as well as my personal growth. Hence, I'm not going to list all the awards, but I believe the title of No. 1 in the country is proof enough and will always drive me further into the realm of exploring myself.
I was invited to take photos with the hosts, sponsors, and the organizers. I (bottom right pic) also won the grand price (1st) in the physics challenge of the competition.
